Paul Sweeney

My research focuses on developing and applying image-based mathematical and computational models to study transport phenomena in microvascular tissues.

I am currently based in the VISIONLab, led by Prof. Sarah Bohndiek, at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, University of Cambridge. Here, my research focuses on understanding the role of hypoxia in the tumour microenvironment through a combination of biophysical models and image processing of mesoscopic photoacoustic imaging using deep learning.

Previously, I was a PhD researcher and a postdoctoral fellow in the labs of Prof. Becky Shipley and Prof. Simon Walker-Samuel at University College London. Together we built an image-based modelling framework called REANIMATE. This platform combines mathematical models with in vivo and ex vivo imaging to predict fluid and mass in whole vascular tumours.
